Computational power of gene rearrangement

چکیده
In 8] we proposed a model to describe the homologous recombi-nations that take place during massive gene rearrangements in hypotrichous ciliates. Here we develop the model by introducing the dependency of homol-ogous recombinations on the presence of certain contexts. We then prove that such a model has the computational power of a Turing machine. This indicates that, in principle, some unicellular organisms may have the capacity to perform any computation carried out by an electronic computer.

Detection Of 11q23 Gene Rearrangement In Children With Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia And Its Association With Demographic Data and Response To Initial Chemotherapy On The Seventh Day Of Induction
Background: Acute lymphoblastic leukemia (ALL) is the most common form of childhood cancer leading to cancer-related death in children. Most infants with ALL harbor recurring structural chromosomal rearrangements that are important initiating events in leukemogenesis but are insufficient to explain the biology and heterogeneity of the disease. Mixed-lineage leukemia-rearrangement (MLL-rearrange...
متن کاملEfficiency Improvement of the Flyback Converter Based on High Frequency Transformer Winding Rearrangement
In this paper, a novel method for loss reduction and efficiency optimization of the high frequency flyback transformers is proposed based on rearrangement of the windings. According to detailed analysis of the high frequency flyback transformer using FEM technique, a novel and simple approach for its design improvement and loss reduction is introduced. It is shown that leakage flux scattering i...
متن کاملAre There Rearrangement Hotspots in the Human Genome?
In a landmark paper, Nadeau and Taylor [18] formulated the random breakage model (RBM) of chromosome evolution that postulates that there are no rearrangement hotspots in the human genome. In the next two decades, numerous studies with progressively increasing levels of resolution made RBM the de facto theory of chromosome evolution. Despite the fact that RBM had prophetic prediction power, it ...
متن کاملMeasurement and Computational Modeling of Radio-Frequency Electromagnetic Power Density Around GSM Base Transceiver Station Antennas
Evaluating the power densities emitted by GSM1800 and GSM900 BTS antennas isconducted via two methods. Measurements are carried out in half a square meter grids around twoantennas. CST Microwave STUDIO software is employed to estimate the power densities in order fordetailed antenna and tower modeling and simulation of power density. Finally, measurements obtainedfrom computational and experime...
متن کاملThe power of operon rearrangements for predicting functional associations
In this mini-review I aim to make the case that operons might be the most powerful source for predicted associations among gene products. Such associations can help identify potential processes where the products of unannotated genes might play a role. The power of the operon for providing insight into functional associations stems from four features: (1) on average, around 60% of the genes in ...
